This is the Cairn Overshirt. It's made properly, here in the UK, by people who know what they're doing.
This is the overshirt we wanted to own, so we made it.
It's cut and sewn in small batches using Halley Stevensons waxed cotton. Proper fabric, with a bit of weight to it. The sort of thing you notice when you pick it up.
What that means in real life is this: you throw it on without thinking. It blocks the wind, shrugs off drizzle, and gets better the more you wear it. You don't baby it. You don't save it for "best". It ends up living by the door, going everywhere with you, picking up marks and creases that actually belong to you.
Clothes didn't always used to be disposable. People saved for them. Thought about them. Bought them knowing they'd have to earn their keep. We like that way of thinking, and the Cairn is built with that in mind.
If you want something cheap or disposable, this isn't it. If you want something you'll wear hard and keep for years, it probably is.
THE TRUE BEGINNING OF BEAR&WOLF
We wanted to make a proper garment, built here in Britain, that looks good but (more importantly!) works. There's enough fancy looking kit on the market. What matters to us is function, strength, and something you'll still be wearing years from now.
↟ British Made: Cut and sewn in the UK using Halley Stevensons waxed cotton, the Dundee mill that's been weatherproofing explorers since 1864.
↟ Six Pockets: Thoughtfully placed for utility, including dual chest pockets and deep side pockets.
↟ Reinforced Strength: Bar-tack stitching at stress points adds durability where it matters most.
↟ Natural Buttons: Finished with corozo buttons from the Cotswolds, each subtly unique.
↟ Limited Batch: Numbered as part of Batch No.001.
The Cairn Overshirt is designed to layer. Wear it solo over a tee in spring, or throw it over a jumper when the weather turns. If you plan on heavy layering,we recommend sizing up.
Waxed cotton only gets better with age. Softening, moulding to you and breaking in like a second skin.
↟ Do not machine wash: Waxed cotton should never go in the washing machine or dry cleaner.
↟ Spot clean only: With cold water and a sponge. Avoid soap and detergent.
↟ Reproof as needed: This will keep your overshirt weather resistant for years.
↟ Air dry: Never on a radiator or tumble dryer.
Look after it, and it'll outlast you.
Faqs
PRODUCT
Where is it made?
The Cairn Overshirt is built entirely in Britain. Waxed cotton from Halley Stevensons in Dundee, corozo buttons from the Cotswolds, labels from Plymouth, all cut and sewn here in the UK.
What size shall I get?
True to size. If you’re between sizes or want more room for layering, we recommend sizing up.
Is it waterproof?
Waxed cotton is water-resistant, not waterproof. It'll keep you dry in a shower or out in the wind, but it's not a plastic raincoat, and that's the point.
How do I care for it?
Never machine wash. Brush off dirt, wipe clean with a damp cloth, and re-wax when the fabric starts to dry. Treat it right and it’ll age beautifully, moulding to you over the years.
