Waxed cotton is brilliant stuff, but it does need looking after.
After enough wear, the original wax finish starts to thin out and the rain doesn't bead off quite like it used to.

TAKE CARE OF YOUR SH*T. IT'LL TAKE CARE OF YOU.

Good clothing deserves a bit of looking after.

Wear a wax jacket long enough and eventually the finish starts to go. Dry patches appear, the rain stops beading and the cotton begins to soak up water.

Doesn't mean there's anything wrong with your jacket. It just needs a bit of attention.

Give it a clean, get the wax out and put a bit of life back into it.

THE JOB ITSELF.

Set yourself up somewhere with a bit of room to work. You'll need your Old Faithful, a sponge or cloth and a hairdryer.

01. GIVE IT A BRUSH

Get rid of any dirt and make sure the jacket is clean and dry.

02. WARM THE WAX

Stand the tin in hot water until the wax has softened enough to apply.

03. WORK IT IN

Apply the wax evenly with a sponge, paying particular attention to seams and areas showing signs of wear.

04. A BIT OF HEAT

Use a hairdryer to gently warm the treated areas and help the wax settle into the cotton.

05. WIPE IT DOWN

Remove any excess wax and hang the jacket to dry.

A FEW THINGS WORTH KNOWING.

How often should I re-wax my jacket?

Once a year is a decent rule of thumb if you're wearing it regularly. If the cotton starts looking dry or the rain stops beading, it might need attention sooner.
Will re-waxing change the colour of my jacket?

It can, particularly when the wax is freshly applied. The fabric may look darker, so we'd always recommend testing a small area first.
Can I use Old Faithful on any wax jacket?

Different types of waxed cotton need different treatments. Check your garment's care instructions before applying Old Faithful.
Is it difficult to apply?

Not particularly, once you know what you're doing. We appreciate that taking a tin of melted wax to an expensive jacket might seem a bit questionable at first, which is exactly why we've filmed the whole process.
