Wolf Pack Spotlight: Paul Mitchell’s Sahara Adventure with Bear&Wolf
Feb 14, 2025
Some customers come and go, and then there’s Paul Mitchell—a true legend of The Bear&Wolf Co. Paul has been with us from the very beginning, back when this brand was just a dream. Through every launch, every product drop, and even when we hit pause to go full-time vanlife, he’s always been there, first in line, backing what we’re building.
Paul doesn’t just buy our gear—he takes it on real adventures. Recently, he packed up his Overlander Cap and Merino Rambler Socks for an incredible trek across the Sahara Desert with The Bucket List Co. And let’s just say, his kit was put through its paces.
The Journey Begins: 450km South to Zagora
Starting in the vibrant streets of Marrakech, Paul and his group set off on a 450km drive south, winding through the High Atlas and Mid Atlas Mountains towards Zagora, the gateway to the Sahara.
The adventure truly kicked off when the trek began. With miles of rocky, sun-scorched terrain ahead, Paul quickly realised that his Overlander Cap was an essential bit of kit.
"As the sun got higher and hotter, the cap was coming into its own. It offered the perfect shade for my face and head but without getting too hot—thanks to the breathable mesh back."
With rough terrain, shifting temperatures, and long hours on foot, comfort mattered.
70KM of Rocks, Sand, and Scorching Heat
Over the next two days, Paul and his group pushed through 70km of trekking, navigating mountain passes, rocky stretches, and vast open plains before reaching the rolling sand dunes of the Sahara proper.
"We walked for over two days on rocks and rough terrain, stopping at remote camps overnight. The only time I didn’t wear my cap was when the wind whipped up grit and sand so aggressively that I had to switch to a full face wrap!"
When the sands finally stretched out before them, Paul found himself even more grateful for the Overlander. The structured peak and breathable design kept him cool while shielding his face from the relentless desert sun.
And while the days were scorching, the nights told a different story—with temperatures plummeting from the high twenties down to just 3-4°C. This is where the Merino Rambler Socks came into their own.
"At night, as the temperatures dropped, I relied on my Merino Rambler Socks for warmth and comfort. After long days on rough terrain, they were the perfect way to keep my feet comfortable and insulated."
A Sunrise Finale & A Feast Overlooking Marrakech
After completing the trek, the final leg of the adventure took Paul back over the High Atlas Mountains, where two last experiences awaited.
The first? A sunrise hot air balloon flight over Marrakech.
"Although dusty, the cap was still going strong as Pilot Jonathon held it out of the basket for some photos."
And after days of trekking through one of the world’s most breathtaking yet unforgiving landscapes, the second? A final evening overlooking the bustling souks of Marrakech, feasting on traditional tagine—and for this, comfort was key.
"The Organic Cotton Tee was the perfect casual wear for our last night, relaxing and enjoying the colours and sounds of Marrakech while tucking into a well-earned tagine."
